The hammock was developed by the pre-Columbian people from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean- they were the Taino indigenous population. In San Sebastian, the city in San Sebastian, you’ll find the Museo de la Hamaca (Hammock Museum) that traces the evolution and history of hammocks.

In San Sebastian, The Hammock Museum is committed to the craft of making hammocks from Puerto Rico. The exhibits feature different kinds of hammocks, hammock materials and tools used to make hammocks, as well as lessons and demonstrations of the typical craft. There is also the option of purchasing hammocks as well as different Puerto Rican Arts and Crafts.
