Galeria Petrus In Puerto Rico

The visionary director and owner Sylvia Villafane of  Galeria Petrus detected a niche in the contemporary art scene of Puerto Rico’s market. She decided in 1997 to establish Petrus in a small location located in Puerto Nuevo, one of San Juan busiest districts. After its initial success, the gallery was moved to a space that was able to meet its particular needs at an area that is strategically located that connects Miramar Historic District and the central point of avant-garde artwork situated in San Juan, Santurce.

Galeria Petrus has a vast collection of art from contemporary Puerto Rican artists. The artworks displayed in the gallery comprise sculptures, paintings as well as photography and other media. Petrus’ goal is to develop curatorial projects with huge scope to help contextualize the past of Puerto Rican art.

The gallery’s roaster includes the most famous masters such as Antonio Martorell, Luis Hernandez Cruz, Jaime Carrero, Julio Suarez, Elizam Escobar, Marta Perez, Carlos Davila Rinaldi and many more. Through collaboration in conjunction with some of the most famous galleries around the globe (Marlborough Gallery, for instance), Petrus has created alliances that have provided people in the community the opportunity to see world-renowned artists like Lilliana Porter, Tom Otterness, Manolo Valdes, among others.
